
Bruins Blast Past Monarchs

PROVIDENCE, RI - Center Nathan Robinson collected two goals and three points as the Providence Bruins skated past the Manchester Monarchs 4-1 at the Dunkin' Donuts Center in front of 2,424 fans on Wednesday night. Manchester (18-7-1-3, 40 points) is in second place in the Atlantic Division behind the Portland Pirates (20-7-2-0, 42 points). Providence (12-12-1-1, 26 points) is in sixth place in the Atlantic Division.
After shutting out the opponent for 164 minutes and 38 seconds, Monarchs goaltender Adam Hauser was beaten by former Monarchs left wing Eric Healey. Left wing Zdenek Blatny passed the puck over to Healey who slipped it past Hauser on the backhand for his 13th of the season at 15:30 of the first period.
Robinson scored his first of two on the evening at the 7:39 mark of the second period. Robinson sent a backhander in on Hauser and then collected his own rebound. Refocusing behind the net, Robinson took the puck out front and sent a wrist shot into the back of the net for his 10th of the season. Centers Pascal Pelletier and Ben Walter assisted on the goal to give the Bruins a 2-0 lead.
Robinson made it 3-0 at 13:45 of the middle frame with a blistering wrist shot from the right face-off circle for his second of the night and 11th of the season. Robinson picked up the loose puck and sent it towards the net for the goal. Defenseman Michael Schutte and Pelletier are credited with assists on the play.
On a 5-on-3 power play, the Monarchs got on the board at 15:50 of the second period. Defenseman Denis Grebeshkov and left wing Jeff Tambellini shuffled the puck at the points and then sent it over to center Yanick Lehoux at the left face-off dot. Lehoux sent a floater towards the net that found its way past Bruins goaltender Tim Thomas and over the goal line for his fourth of the season.
Center Ben Guite tallied his 10th of the season as he fought off Monarchs players at 3:25 of the third period. Guite picked up the puck from the crease and battled towards the left face-off circle as Monarchs players surrounded him. Guite made it to the face-off dot, turned around and shot the puck past Hauser to give the Bruins the 4-1 win. Walter and Robinson assisted on the final goal of the night.
Hauser (13-6-2) took his sixth loss of the season stopping 21 shots. Thomas (8-10-0) earned his eighth win of the season with 23 saves.
Manchester went 1-for-6 on the power play after going not capitalizing on their last 23 opportunities dating back to December 10 versus the Springfield Falcons. Providence was 1-for-6 with the man advantage. The Monarchs held their opponent off the scoreboard during the power play in the last 22 opportunities dating back to December 14 versus the Hartford Wolf Pack.
The Monarchs will play the Portland Pirates on Friday, December 23 at the Cumberland County Civic Center at 7:05 p.m.
