Cleveland Barons News Release
CLEVELAND, OH -- Stephen Baby?s three point performance led the Chicago Wolves to a 6-3 win at Cleveland on Wednesday night. Nine different players scored goals in the game as Chicago jumped out to an early three-goal advantage and never looked back.
Chicago couldn?t have asked for a better start to the game scoring three un-answered tallies leading to a 3-0 lead after twenty minutes of play. Pat Dwyer got it started for the Wolves with a short-handed goal at the 10:30 mark for his fifth goal of the year. Colin Stuart then followed the initial goal with his second of the year 3:15 later to extend the lead to 2-0. Kevin Doell fueled the fire with his seventh of the season at the 15:21 mark to close out the period?s scoring. Chicago out-shot the Barons 17-13 in the period, with Barons goaltender Nolan Schaefer making 14-saves in his eighth consecutive appearance. Tuomas Tarkki made his 10th appearance of the year with a perfect period and 13-saves.
The Barons responded in the second period with a strong showing and two goals to climb back into contention. Tomas Plihal converted his second goal of the season on a power play at the 3:40 mark on assists from Ray DiLauro and Shane Joseph. The Barons then climbed within a goal on Josh Hennessy?s seventh score of the year at even strength. Hennessy?s goal was assisted by Mike Iggulden and Tim Conboy. The Barons were out-shot 18-9 in the period and trailed in shots-on-goal 35-22 after forty minutes of play.
Chicago quickly extinguished any idea of a Barons comeback with a power play goal at the 3:02 mark of the third period. Ramzi Abid tipped home his team leading 13th goal of the season re-establishing the two-goal advantage for Chicago at 4-2. Josh Prudden answered for the Barons with his seventh goal of the season, but it was too little-too late with the Wolves scoring the last two goals of the night for a 6-3 win. Stephen Baby scored his third to go along with two previous assists and Justin Morrison added his fourth of the year to close out the offensive production. Chicago produced 49 shots-on-goal, a season high for the Barons in shots allowed.
Nolan Schaefer finished the night with a season high 43-saves in the losing effort for the Barons, while Tuomas Tarkki managed 29-saves in the win for Chicago. The two teams won?t meet again until January 15th at AllState Arena in Chicago.
The Barons face the Hamilton Bulldogs on Thursday night at 7pm. Tickets for the game are on sale now at the Quicken Loans Arena Box Office.
