Kansas City Brigade News Release

KANSAS CITY - The expansion Kansas City Brigade of the Arena Football League announced today their roster that will take the field on Sunday, January 29th when they visit the Dallas Desperados at 2 p.m. in their first-ever game.

The AFL's mandatory cut down date for teams to reach their regular season roster is Monday, January 23rd. League rules allow teams to carry a roster limit of 24 players during the regular season, including 18 to 20 active players and four (4) players on the practice squad. Other players can be put on the injured reserve. Currently the Brigade has six players on injured reserve and will announce the four practice squad players tomorrow.

The Kansas City Brigade, who had 37 players in training camp, finalized their active roster, which includes: 2 QB, 3 OS, 3 FB/LB, 3 WR/LB, 8 OL/DL, 4 DS, and 1 K.

"There were a lot of difficult decisions, but we are very pleased with the roster," Coach Kevin Porter said. "These 24 players are ready to go and focused for the task at hand, which is the Dallas (Desperados) game this Sunday. Training camp is over, this is our team, and now it is up to us to accomplish all of the goals that we have set forth as a unit."

The roster includes 10 players who were with the New Orleans VooDoo last season (plus two more who are on injured reserved). Three marquee players, QB Andy Kelly, OL/DL B.J. Cohen, and DS Chris Pointer lead the Brigade, and local players OS Sam Simmons (Schlagle HS), OL/DL Lucas Yarnell (Topeka Washburn Rural HS), and OL/DL Matt Walls (Benedictine College) complement the roster.

The team will take on the Dallas Desperados this Sunday, at 2pm in Dallas.
