Grand Rapids Rampage News Release

The Grand Rapids Rampage announced Monday morning that Jose Davis will be the starting quarterback for the season opener on Sunday, January 29 at Columbus (Ohio) against the Destroyers.

"Both Jose Davis and Chad Salisbury had fantastic training camps, but it came down to who put the ball into the end zone more throughout training camp and our scrimmages against Kansas City and San Jose. And that was Davis," Rampage head coach Sparky McEwen said.

Davis (6.01, 195 lbs., 06/29/79, Kent State) will become the 13th quarterback to start a game for the Rampage as the team begins its ninth season in 2006. This will mark the fourth career start for the Bellaire, Ohio native in his four-year AFL career. Last season he was a backup for the defending ArenaBowl champion Colorado Crush.

"Offensively, we've got a great front line, receivers that rival any team and the best fullback/linebacker corps I've seen around," said Davis, who is expecting over 50 friends and family to attend his first Rampage start. "It's going to be a very exciting season for Rampage football in Grand Rapids."
