SaberCats set 2006 roster

SAN JOSE, Calif. (Jan. 23, 2006) - Another trade and a few transactions later, the San Jose SaberCats have set their roster for the 2006 season opener on Saturday against the expansion Utah Blaze at HP Pavilion.

The SaberCats traded WR/LB Kenny Solomon to the Grand Rapids Rampage in exchange for future considerations, the team's second trade in as many days, and placed linemen Julius Gant (groin), Albrey Battle (ankle), Dan Loney (knee) and Fitu Tu'ua (finger) on injured reserve.

To reach their roster limit, the SaberCats also placed OS Atnaf Harris (foot), QB Chris Lewis (back), DS Rufus Brown (wrist), OS Jason Geathers (hip) and WR/LB Ben Nelson (ankle) on IR and activated DS Omarr Smith from refused to report and placed him on IR.

All players on injured reserve must miss a minimum of two weeks before becoming eligible to be activated to the active roster.

"I'm very excited about our roster of players," said head coach Darren Arbet. "We have some minor injuries to guys who will make a difference for this team during the course of the year."
