San Jose SaberCats News Release
SAN JOSE, Calif. (Aug. 19, 2008) - The San Jose SaberCats placed first-team All-Arena Football League defensive back MARQUIS FLOYD on their other league exempt list today after the three-year veteran signed with the National Football League's Seattle Seahawks.
Floyd (6-2, 192, West Georgia) earned first team honors after placing second in the AFL with a team-high 10 interceptions. He added 15 pass breakups, three forced fumbles and 79.0 tackles while starting all 16 regular season games and leading the SaberCats to their second straight ArenaBowl championship appearance.
"Marquis deserves the opportunity to showcase his talents on the big field," said SaberCats head coach and general manager Darren Arbet. "He's a big, athletic defensive back who can help Seattle's secondary and he can also play special teams."
The 28-year-old Georgia native has established himself as one of the top defensive players in the AFL since joining the SaberCats. His 16 interceptions over the past two seasons are the fifth-most of any AFL player and his 19 career picks are the fourth-most in team history.
Floyd is currently listed third at right CB on Seattle's depth chart posted on the team's official website. The Seahawks' next preseason game is at San Diego on Monday, August 25 and will be televised on ESPN.
A premiere franchise in the Arena Football League, San Jose has won three ArenaBowl championships and captured seven Western Division titles, nine consecutive playoff appearances and owns the league's best regular season record this decade.
