Rush announces 2006 roster
January 23, 2006 - Arena Football League (1987-2008) (AFL I)
Chicago Rush News Release
In preparation for its 2006 season opener, the Chicago Rush announced today it has reduced its roster to the league mandated 24-man regular season limit.
To comply with the AFL maximum, the Rush waived WR/DBs Davon Fowlkes, Buchie Ibeh and Omar Jenkins; FB/LBs Jeff Kelly, Phillip Perry and Jason Vanloo; and linemen Bobby Leffew and John Thomas.
In addition, the team traded WR/DB Jacques Rumph to Kansas City in exchange for future considerations, and placed FB/LB Levelle Brown, FB/LB Charlie Cook and WR/DB Marcus Moore on the league's Injured Reserve list.
Beginning today, the Rush may sign up to four players to its 2006 practice squad.
The 2006 Rush roster (including IR) features 21 AFL veterans and six rookies. Of the 21 vets, 16 were with the Rush last season when the team advanced to the American Conference championship game.
The Rush and the AFL will celebrate 20 seasons of fan-friendly football when Chicago opens the 2006 season at 2 p.m. Sunday, January 29, in Denver against John Elway's defending-champion Colorado Crush. The Rush home opener is set for 7:30 p.m. Friday, February 3, against the New York Dragons. Fans interested in purchasing season or group tickets for 2006 can call the Rush at (877) RUSH-TIX or visit the team's Web site, www.chicagorush.com.
