Brewers OF Domingo Santana to Begin MLB Rehab with Shuckers Tonight

BILOXI, MS. - The Milwaukee Brewers have announced the following roster move that affects the Shuckers' roster prior to Tuesday's 7:10 p.m. series opener against the Mississippi Braves at MGM Park

SUMMARY:

- Domingo Santana, OF, will begin MLB rehab assignment with Biloxi

Santana, 23, is recovering from shoulder soreness and was officially placed on the 15-day disabled list on May 20 (retroactive to May 19). In 36 games this season, the native of the Dominican Republic has a .239 batting average with seven doubles, three home runs and 12 RBI.

The outfielder was acquired by the Milwaukee Brewers along with current Shuckers' outfielder Brett Phillips, and pitchers Josh Hader and Adrian Houser from the Houston Astros on July 30, 2015 in exchange for RHP Mike Fiers and outfielder Carlos Gomez. In 74 games with the Brewers, Santana has hit .235 with nine homers and 30 RBI. In 94 career Major League games, the 23-year-old outfielder has a .224 career batting average with 14 doubles, 11 home runs and 38 RBI.

Santana made his Major League debut on July 1, 2014 with the Astros, and hit eighth against the Seattle Mariners, going 0-for-4 with three strikeouts in a 13-2 loss at Minute Maid Park.

Santana originally signed with the Philadelphia Phillies as an amateur free agent in 2009. Houston acquired the outfielder as a player-to-be-named-later in a deal that saw Hunter Pence move to Philadelphia in exchange for Jarred Cosart, Jon Singleton and Josh Zeid.

The Shuckers' current roster is made up of 25 active players and two MLB rehab assignments, Santana and LHP Will Smith.

Biloxi returns to action on tonight at MGM Park to welcome in the Mississippi Braves for five games. Mississippi State product RHP Brandon Woodruff (0-2, 8.00) take the mound in the opener for Biloxi, while RHP Andrew Thurman (0-4, 5.21) counters for Mississippi. The contest also marks game one of a stretch of 20 consecutive games before the All-Star break. First pitch is scheduled for 7:10 p.m., with coverage starting at 6:50 p.m. on the Biloxi Shuckers' Radio Network's flagship station WGCM 1240 AM, 100.9 FM, Pascagoula's WPMO 1580 AM and the TuneIn Radio app. Tuesday features Gautier and Vancleave Community Night at MGM Park.
