Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp News Release

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The Miami Marlins announced a series of transactions that impact their Double-A affiliate Jacksonville Suns roster prior to tonight's game against the Montgomery Biscuits at the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville at 7:05 p.m.

Left-handed starting pitcher Jarlin Garcia has been placed on the disabled list, retroactive to May 29, with a left triceps strain. Garcia left his start on Saturday in Mississippi early with the injury, and he is 1-3 with a 4.54 ERA this season in nine games started for the Suns. Garcia briefly spent time on the Miami Marlins major league roster two weeks ago, but did not make his major league debut. Garcia is listed by Baseball America as the Marlins No. 3 prospect for the 2016 season.

In a corresponding move, left-handed pitcher Matt Tomshaw has been transferred from Triple-A New Orleans to Jacksonville. This season with the Zephyrs, Tomshaw is 0-1 with a 2.79 ERA in five games pitched in relief. Tomshaw spent the majority of 2015 with the Suns, going 6-10 with a 4.49 ERA in 29 appearances and 18 starts. Tomshaw, a native of Kingston, N.Y., pitched collegiately at Jacksonville University and lives in Jacksonville during the offseason.

Additionally, infielder Avery Romero has been transferred from Jacksonville to High-A Jupiter. Romero had played in 36 games with the Suns, hitting .190 with a home run and 10 RBI. Romero, a native of St. Augustine, is listed by Baseball America as the No. 23 Marlins prospect for 2016.

In a corresponding move, infielder Brian Anderson has been transferred from High-A Jupiter to Jacksonville. Anderson with the Hammerheads was hitting .302 with three homers and 25 RBI in 49 games played. His .302 average is the eighth-best in the Florida State League at the time of his promotion. This is the first call-up to the Double-A level for Anderson, who was selected by the Marlins in the third round of the 2014 draft out of the University of Arkansas. Anderson is listed by Baseball America as the No. 6 Marlins prospect for 2016.

The Suns roster now stands at 25 active players, and a revised roster is attached.

Tonight the Jacksonville Suns begin a five-game home series against the Montgomery Biscuits at the Baseball Grounds at 7:05 p.m. The Suns will start right-hander Chris Mazza (1-1, 3.98 ERA) against Biscuits left-hander Chris Kirsch (1-1, 5.72 ERA).
