Jackson Generals News Release

Sevierville, Tenn. - The Generals were rewarded after going 6-1 last week, as Tyler O'Neill was named Player of the Week and Ryan Yarbrough was named Pitcher of the Week by the Southern League Tuesday morning. Jackson has received three weekly awards this season, and the team swept both for the first time since 2013.

O'Neill continued his stellar start to 2016 with RBIs in all seven of Jackson's games last week. The slugger went 8-for-24 with a home run, a triple, four doubles, 11 RBIs and six walks in contests against Chattanooga and Montgomery. The highlight of his week was a 3-for-4 performance with a pair of doubles and three RBIs at Riverwalk Stadium in a win on Friday.

The 20-year-old outfielder is all over the Southern League leaderboard, ranking third in average (.315), tied for second in home runs (9), first in RBI (38), tied for first in hits (58), third in slugging percentage (.560), tied for second in extra-base hits (25) and first in total bases (103). This is the second career weekly player of the week award for O'Neill, who took home Midwest League honors with Clinton in 2014.

Yarbrough dominated in two starts for the Generals last week, going a combined 2-0 while allowing only two runs (one earned) on nine hits in 13 innings. He struck out 13 and walked two. Last Monday against Chattanooga, the southpaw struck out seven in seven shutout innings while allowing just three hits. He followed that up with a solid six-inning effort against Montgomery in the finale on Sunday. Yarbrough has picked up the win in each of his last six starts for the Generals.

The lefty is the second Jackson hurler to be named Pitcher of the Week this season. Dylan Unsworth won the award earlier this month after taking a no-hitter into the seventh inning against Jacksonville.

This marks the first time the Generals have swept the weekly awards since the beginning of 2013. Brad Miller and Hector Noesi were the first honorees that season.

Jackson has won five games in a row and 10 of 12 heading into the home stretch of the First Half. The Generals lead the North Division by 7.5 games with 20 left before the All-Star Break.

After a league-wide off day on Memorial Day, the Generals continue their 11-game road trip with a visit to the Tennessee Smokies for five starting on Tuesday. Andrew Moore (0-0, 9.00) will make his second Double-A start in the first meeting between the division foes opposite Stephen Perakslis (0-1, 5.40).
