Providence Bruins News Release
The Providence Bruins tied a team season-high by scoring four goals in the first period, en route to a 4-3 victory over the Portland Pirates at the Dunkin' Donuts Center Providence on Friday night. The win improved the team's record to 10-6-4-0 (24 points), putting them in second place in the Atlantic Division, one point behind the division-leading Hartford Wolf Pack. The Bruins have now won a season-high four straight on home ice, and are on a season-high six-game home unbeaten streak (5-0-1-0). Providence is unbeaten in its last four games overall, with a 3-0-1-0 record.
Bruin center Kris Vernarsky tallied a goal and an assist, his fourth goal of the year, and second game-winner. Defenseman Rich Brennan notched his first two goals of the season, while left wing Martin Samuelsson rifled home his first. Defenseman Peter Metcalf earned an assist, extending his point streak to four games (1-3-4), while center Andre Savage also added an assist, to extend his point streak to three games (1-4-5).
Providence goaltender Hannu Toivonen stopped 17 shots to improve to 6-3-1 on the season.
The Bruins visit the Manchester Monarchs on Saturday night at 7:35 p.m. All the action will be broadcast live on WDDZ AM-550. The Bruins close out their busy holiday slate when they host the Albany River Rats on Sunday, November 30 at 4:05 p.m.
