Brandt Hurls Hot Rods to Tight Win
August 25, 2013 - Midwest League (MWL1)
Bowling Green Hot Rods News Release
Bowling Green, KY - Seven innings of one-run baseball pitched by Kevin Brandt led the Bowling Green Hot Rods (77-54, 39-24) to a 2-1 win over the Fort Wayne TinCaps (68-63, 25-37) Sunday afternoon in downtown Bowling Green. Joey Rickard and Leonardo Reginatto each drove in runs to improve the Hot Rods to 23 games over .500 for the first time in franchise history.
The win, accompanied by Great Lakes and Dayton victories, keeps the Hot Rods in first place in the Eastern Division Second Half by 1.5 games. With seven games remaining in the 2013 regular season, the Hot Rods have a magic number of three to clinch a playoff spot.
Bowling Green was able to build an early lead on Sunday afternoon with a couple two-out runs in the bottom of the third inning. Brandon Martin singled for the second straight at bat to begin the game to start the rally. Martin then advanced to second on a wild pickoff attempt at first base and came around to score on a Joey Rickard RBI double. Leonardo Reginatto followed that with a single to centerfield to drive in Rickard.
That was the only offense on the day for the Hot Rods, but it proved to be just enough. In just his third Hot Rods start, Brandt tied a career-high with seven innings and allowed just one run to earn his second win. Andrew Hanse and Marcus Jensen shut the door in the final two innings, combining with Brandt to shut down the final ten TinCap batters.
The six-game homestand at Bowling Green Ballpark concludes with the three-game series finale with the Fort Wayne TinCaps (Padres) at 10:35 AM CDT on Monday. The Hot Rods will send RHP Reinaldo Lopez (7-4, 2.56) to the mound for the start opposite the TinCaps RHP Colin Rea (0-1, 1.97). The Forever Communications Pregame Show with Hank Fuerst and Chris Kleinhans-Schulz takes place at 10:05 AM CDT on the Hot Rods Radio Network (1340 "The Ticket" WBGN-AM and 1340wbgn.com).
Monday will serve as a BGMU Businessperson Special. For more information and to purchase tickets, visit BGHotRods.com or call (270) 901-2121.
