Lansing Lugnuts News Release

LANSING, Mich. - Despite a two-run rally which sent the game into extra innings, the Lansing Lugnuts (24-39, 56-76) fell, 5-4, on a go-ahead single by Joe Hudson in the top of the 11th as the Dayton Dragons (35-28, 63-69) prevailed on Sunday afternoon at Cooley Law School Stadium.

The Lugs sent the game into extra innings thanks to a pair of runs off Alejandro Chacin (Win, 4-3) in the bottom of the ninth inning.

Trailing 4-2, Kellen Sweeney led off the inning with a triple to the wall in right-center and then scored on Dwight Smith, Jr.'s RBI single to bring Lansing to within 4-3. Three batters later, Jason Leblebijian's sacrifice fly scored Smith from third to tie the game.

However, Daniel Pigott led off the 11th with a single off of Arik Sikula (Loss, 5-1). A sacrifice bunt moved him to second before a groundout sent him to third. Hudson then singled through the left side of the infield, scoring Pigott to put the Dragons back up, 5-4.

Jesus Adames came on and pitched a 1-2-3 bottom of the 11th frame to seal the win for Dayton, earning him his first save of the season.

The Lugnuts had plenty of opportunities but finished the game just 1-for-17 with runners in scoring position, stranding 13 total runners in the game. After taking a 2-1 lead in the first thanks to a dropped fly ball by Dayton's Beau Amaral, they did not score any more runs until the ninth-inning rally.

In the losing effort, Smith finished 3-for-6 at the plate with a double, an RBI and a run scored. Chris Hawkins and Jordan Leyland each also notched two-hit games.

Lansing starter Daniel Norris gave up a single run in four innings of work, taking a no-decision. The 20-year old allowed three hits and struck out four while, handing out just one free pass.

For Dayton, 19-year old Nick Travieso pitched six strong innings, allowing two runs, but neither was earned. He allowed six hits to the Lugnuts while striking out two with three walks. He has now allowed just a single earned run over 17 innings of work.

The series finale comes Monday night with a 7:05 p.m. first pitch. Eric Brown (1-3, 4.15) will take the hill for the Lugnuts and take on Dayton lefty Amir Garrett(1-2, 5.28).
