Dayton Dragons News Release

Lansing, Mich.-Joe Hudson's two-out single brought in Daniel Pigott from third base with the tie-breaking run in the top of the 11th inning and the Dayton Dragons held on for a 5-4 victory over the Lansing Lugnuts on Sunday afternoon. The win allowed the Dragons to remain two and one-half games behind Great Lakes in the race for the final Eastern Division playoff spot with seven games to play.

The Dragons took a two-run lead to the bottom of the ninth before Lansing rallied to tie the game, and the Lugnuts nearly won it in the 10th before the Dragons escaped a bases-loaded, one out jam to send the game to the 11th.

The Dragons improved to 35-28 in the second half. Wildcard leader Great Lakes defeated South Bend 4-2 for their fifth straight victory as they held their lead on the Dragons. The Dragons and Great Lakes meet in a three-game series starting Wednesday.

Dayton's Daniel Pigott opened the 11th inning with a base hit to end a string of 13 straight Dragons batters retired. Jeff Gelalich's sacrifice moved Pigott to second, and he went to third on Tanner Rahier's ground out to second base. Hudson then drove a hard ground ball through the left side of the infield to drive in Pigott and give the Dragons a 5-4 lead.

Jesus Adames pitched a perfect bottom of the 11th to record his first save of the season.

The Dragons took a 4-2 lead to the bottom of the ninth inning before Lansing scored twice to tie the game. Jason Leblebijian's sacrifice fly to right with one out brought in Dwight Smith Jr. from third base to make it a 4-4 game. In the bottom of the 10th, the Lugnuts loaded the bases with one out on a pair of singles and a walk before Dragons reliever Alejandro Chacin struck out Smith and then got Emilio Guerrero to fly out to center to end the inning.

The Dragons took the lead in the top of the first inning when Beau Amaral tripled and scored on Jon Matthews' ground out, but Lansing answered with two runs in the bottom of the first.

The Dragons scored three in the sixth to get the lead. After an error allowed one run to score, Hudson delivered a sacrifice fly to make it 3-2, and Humberto Valor followed with a run-scoring single to give the Dragons a 4-2 lead.

Dragons starting pitcher Nick Travieso pitched well over his six inning stint. He allowed six hits and two unearned runs with two walks and two strikeouts. Chacin (4-3) was credited with the win despite allowing the two runs in the ninth. Lansing went 1 for 17 as a team with men in scoring position in the game.

The Dragons collected nine hits. Amaral was 3 for 5 and had a triple for the third straight game. Pigott had his fourth straight two-hit game. Seth Mejias-Brean also had two hits including a double high off the left-center field fence. Sammy Diaz was 0 for 4 with a walk as his eight-game hitting streak ended.

The Dragons meet the Lugnuts in the last game of a three-game series on Monday at 7:05 p.m. Amir Garrett (1-2, 5.28) will start for Dayton against Lansing's Eric Brown (1-3, 4.15). The Dragons do not play on Tuesday before opening the important series at Great Lakes on Wednesday night. All Dragons games can be heard on WONE Radio (980 AM) and via the internet at daytondragons.com and wone.com.

Notes: Amaral stole two bases to give him 35 on the season, the fourth highest single-season total in Dragons history.
