Beloit Sky Carp News Release
BELOIT, WI - Daniel Robertson blasted a pair of homers, which propelled the Beloit Snappers over the Clinton LumberKings, 6-4, in Midwest League action with 1,188 on hand at Pohlman Field.
The Snappers have now won six out of seven and have a record of 73-59 (30-32 in the second half). The LumberKings slide to their fourth consecutive loss and drop to 64-67 (31-31 in the second half).
Robertson (2-3, 2 HR, 2 RBIs, 2 runs) quickly put Beloit up 1-0 with a solo homer against Steven Ewing (1-1) in the first inning that carried over the left field wall. One inning later, that lead was extended to two thanks to a walk, a double and a Ryan Delgado sacrifice fly.
Starting pitcher Kyle Finnegan (1-0), making his Snappers debut, held the lead for two innings, but Clinton was able to tie the game in the third. A double and a walk to start the inning brought up Dario Pizzano, who knocked in a run with a two-bagger. When Tyler Marlette followed that with a groundout, Janelfry Zorrilla came across to tie the game.
In the fifth inning, Robertson led off for Beloit and hammered the first pitch over the center field fence to snap the tie. Reliever Austin House then made that run stand up, with a pair of perfect innings.
The Snappers padded their lead in the late innings, scoring once in the seventh on a Christopher Bostick sacrifice fly and twice in the eighth, first on a Matt Olson double and again on Delgado's second sac fly of the day. Tyler Vail relieved House in the eighth and started his appearance with a scoreless inning. He did have some difficulty in the ninth, as a Luis Caballero (1-3, 2 RBIs) single plated two runs, but Vail was able to escape the jam with a groundout and a fly out, saving his fifth game of the year in the process.
Beloit will try and secure a series victory on Monday as they send out RHP Dylan Covey (0-1, 4.23 ERA) to face RHP David Holman (4-6, 3.23 ERA). The night's first pitch time is 7:00pm. WCLO and WJVL will present fans with a great offer on Monster Deal Monday. For just $22, you'll get two general admission tickets, two hot dogs, two sodas, two popcorns and two adjustable road Snappers caps. Thanks to Ott Schweitzer Distributing, 12 ounce bottles of Leinenkugel will be just $2.
