Brampton Beast News Release
TOLEDO, OHIO - The Brampton Beast surged ahead late in the game with a three-goal third period but the Toledo Walleye tied the game late in the third and ended the contest early in overtime, taking a 6-5 overtime victory over the Beast at the Huntington Center in Toledo on Saturday night.
The Beast once again exploded for five goals courtesy of five different players, including captain Brandon Marino, Mathieu Gagnon, David Pacan, Justin Baker and Yannick Veilleux.
The Beast drew first blood early in the opening frame as Brandon Marino parked in front of Walleye starter Jake Peterson and tapped in a pass from David Pacan, giving Marino his first goal of the season at 1:44.
Not unlike last night's back-and-forth affair, the Walleye were quick to respond. Tyson Spink netted his first of the night at 2:18, quickly tying the game at 1-1.
The game didn't stay tied for long. Mathieu Gagnon, Luc-Olivier Blain and Chris Leveille combined for a beautiful odd-man rush passing play, with Gagnon finishing the play, once again restoring the Beast lead at 6:33.
The Walleye would strike back to tie the game before the end of the opening frame, with Spink beating Beast starting goaltender Andrew D'Agostini for his second goal of the night at 13:05.
The Walleye surged ahead with a pair of goals in the second game, including Shane Berschback's first goal of the season and Spink's hat trick goal, giving the home team a 4-2 edge heading into the final frame.
The Beast roared to start the third period and quickly found themselves back in the game. Pacan used his big frame to his advantage and parked in front of Paterson and slammed home his second goal in as many games to cut the Walleye lead to 4-3 just 43 seconds into the third period.
The Beast continued to fight hard and tied the game at 5:41 thanks to Justin Baker's wrist shot that eluded Paterson through a crowd, quieting the raucous Opening Night crowd in Toledo.
Yannick Veilleux gave the Beast their first lead since the opening frame at the 8:48 mark of the third period, executing a perfect highlight reel spin-o-rama move from behind the goal and roofing his first goal as a member of the Beast.
Brampton did its best to ward off a late period Walleye surge but Alden Hirschfeld tied the game with a shorthanded tally that bounced past D'Agostini off a leg, tying the game with under four minutes remaining, forcing overtime for the second straight night.
Tyson Spink continued his hot game early in the extra frame, beating D'Agostini just 28 seconds into the overtime period, giving the Walleye their second consecutive extra-time victory over the Beast in as many days.
The Beast will now head home to host the Missouri Mavericks at the Powerade Centre on Friday, October 28 at 7:15 PM.
Notes: The Beast finished the game 2-for-5 on the power play and 4-for-5 on the penalty kill. Chris Leveille extended his point streak to three games. Molson Three Stars: 3) Tylor Spink 2) Alden Hirschfeld 1) Tyson Spink.
