Battochio Returns
October 22, 2016 - ECHL (ECHL)
Rapid City Rush News Release
(RAPID CITY, SD) - Over the summer, legendary Rapid City Rush goaltender, Danny Battochio, hung up his skates and began the next phase of his life after professional hockey. Part of that phase mean he would become the Goaltending Consultant of the Rush. Tonight, "the Batman" gets to put on his cape once again.
Almost immediately following his stellar 44-save performance in a 3-2 loss against the Quad City Mallards last night, Rush rookie goaltender Austin Lotz was recalled to the AHL by the Tucson Roadrunners. Because of the recall, Battochio will suit up tonight for the Rush as the backup goaltender to Kent Patterson in the rematch against Quad City.
Battochio put together a stellar career in the Black Hills in six of his seven professional seasons, and is the owner of 27 Rush goaltending franchise records in both the regular season and postseason. With the Rush, "the Batman" played in 252 games, and registered a 131-81-21 record, with a 2.61 GAA, 0.912 SV%, and 12 shutouts, which is good for barely less than half of the franchise's shutout total. He made himself known as an impact player very early in his career, not only capturing the 2010 CHL Rookie of the Year award, but also by powering the Rush on a magical postseason run which culminated in the 2010 Ray Miron Presidents' Cup Championship against the Allen Americans.
In addition to the return of Battochio, "Super Fan" Cameron Hughes will be here to ignite the Rush faithful as the team squares off once more against the Quad City Mallards. Tonight's game also marks our second-ever "Affiliation Night", in which we pay homage to the second season of our affiliation with the NHL's Arizona Coyotes. The team will wear specialty jerseys that will be auctioned off following the game. Puck drop is at 7:05 p.m., so call the Rush office at 716-7825 for your tickets now!
