Fort Worth Brahmas News Release
NORTH RICHLAND HILLS, Texas (January 25)- Head Coach Dan Wildfong and his Texas Brahmas felt the effects of a short bench Friday evening in Austin as they lost to the Ice Bats 3-2.
Texas welcomed newly acquired forward Brent MacSween in the lineup, a much needed presence as a couple of his teammates were sidelined due to injury.
Brett Jaeger received the start in net for Texas, his first action against Austin this season. The Ice Bats introduced themselves to Jaeger early with a shorthanded goal in the first by Mike Bartlett. The Brahmas were unable to capitalize on three powerplay opportunities.
The second was a reflection of the first as Austin whipped a goal past Jaeger at the 12:30 mark. The Brahmas played disciplined hockey in the second, resulting in an empty penalty box.
The Brahmas offense woke up in the final period as Jordan Cameron took a feed from forward Tyler Skworchinski and sent it past Bats goaltender Doug Groenestege. Brahmas leading goal scorer Anders Strome followed the goal with one of his own with 13:05 on the clock. But the scoring was too late as Austin was able to find the back of the net in the third, to improve their winning streak to six games.
Despite outshooting the Bats 41-22, the Brahmas lost the game 3-2, their first loss against the Bats this season. The Brahmas will now travel to Oklahoma City to play the Blazers Saturday night at 7:35 PM. Texas will return home to the NYTEX Sports Centre to wrap up their three game weekend series Sunday afternoon with a game against the Corpus Christi Rayz at 3:05 PM.
