New Mexico Scorpions News Release
[ ODESSA, Tex. ]-In a special teams battle, Odessa came out on top 6-3 Friday night. The loss was the second straight for the Scorpions who finish the road trip Saturday in Amarillo.
The Scorpions got out of the gates fast. Chris Robertson started a three-on-one break and delivered a perfect pass to Dominic Osman. Osman put it in the back of the net, becoming the first Scorps player to hit 20 goals this season.
The choppy ice wreaked some havoc for New Mexico. As a power play was winding down, the puck hopped over Vladimir Hartinger's stick and into the neutral zone. Mike Rutter jumped out of the penalty box and scored a breakaway goal.
The second period saw the Scorpions reclaim the lead when Ray Ortiz scored his 6th goal of the season. New Mexico extended their lead when Konrad Reeder scored his league leading 5th shorthanded goal of the year.
Odessa stormed back in the middle part of the period. Scott Thinel found room in front of the net and cut the lead down to one. John Osborne tied the game up at the 11:02 mark of the second period with his 5th goal of the season.
The home team put the game away with three goals in the third period. Osborne scored a shorthanded goal, giving Odessa their first lead of the game. Jocelyn Dubord put the Jackalopes lead at two with his power play goal at the 11:57 mark. Mario Joly finished the night's scoring at the 15:52 mark on the power play.
