
Hounds defeat Rage 5-3

YOUNGSTOWN, OHIO - Chris Richards had two assists to achieve Central Hockey League career point 600 as the Hounds defeated the Rocky Mountain Rage 5-3 on Friday night.
The Hounds struck first as the newest SteelHound Eric Main scored a power play goal at 11:32 of the first period to put the Hounds up 1-0. Chris Richards and Joel Irving had the assists. Youngstown extended its lead 2:15 later as Steve Birnstill scored a power play goal for his fourth of the season to make it 2-0. Youngstown was 2-8 on the power play. Rocky Mountain answered back to make it 2-1 after one period as Daymen Rycroft scored his league leading 32nd goal of the season at 14:38. Brent Cullaton recorded an assist to give him 700 points for his career.
In the second period Joel Irving found Kurtis Dulle on a two-on-one for a one timer that beat Scott Reid at 3:27 to put the Hounds up 3-1 after two. Irving added a goal at 7:00 minutes of the third period to put Youngstown up 4-1 and give him a three point night. Irving has 15 goals and 25 assists on the season.
Rocky Mountain fought back with two more power play goals as the Rage were 3-6 on the man advantage. Simon Watson at 12:50 and Trevor Weisgerber at 17:25 made it a 4-3 game. Kevin Jarman sealed the victory for Youngstown with an empty net goal to give the Hounds a 5-3 win. Richards's assist on that goal was good for his 600th career CHL point. The SteelHounds captain is only the 10th player in league history to record 600 points.
Rocky Mountain out shot the Hounds 36-28 for the game. Andy Franck made 33 saves for his second straight win and 14th of the year. The Hounds have won two straight games to improve to 22-13-2 (46 points) but still remain in third place in the Northeast Division. The Rage move to 27-6-3 (57 points) and still have first place in the Northwest Division.
These two teams will meet up again on Saturday night at 7:05 from the Chevrolet Centre. All SteelHounds games are available on ESPN Radio 1240.
