Bucks Sign D-Man Yeung: Play In Corpus Tonight

CORPUS CHRISTI, TX- The Laredo Bucks of the Central Hockey League made roster moves for the second time this week Friday as they signed fifth-year defenseman Gabe Yeung (pronounced Young).

Yeung, a Madison, Wisconsin Native, has played for nine teams in eight professional league's in his five-year career.

This season Yeung has played in 19 games combined for the Flint Generals (IHL) and Valley Forge Freedom (MAHL), scoring one goal with three assists, while accumulating 83 penalty minutes.

"He's very tough, that's what we need is a tough d-man and that's what Yeung can bring to us", said Bucks head coach/GM Terry Ruskowski.

Yeung has had a brief stint in the CHL, back in the 2003-04 season Yeung played in four games for the Lubbock Cotton Kings scoring a goal.

Yeung arrived in Laredo Wednesday night before taking a physical and signing a contract late Thursday to make it official.

During the past two days the Bucks have brought in three new players (Gord Burnett, Derek Legault, Gabe Yeung), while trading two players (Brent MacSween, Jeff Genovy).

Burnett, who was driving down from Youngstown, will meet the team in Bossier-Shreveport for Saturday's game, while Legault and Yeung are with the Bucks now and should be the line-up Friday when the Bucks take on the Corpus Christi Rayz at the American Bank Center.

The Bucks start a two-game road trip tonight, as they look to avenge last Sunday's 4-0 shutout loss at the LEC.

Rayz netminder Jason Tapp stopped all 26 Bucks shots to pick up his first shutout of the season.

Corpus had four different players score in the win, with three of the four tallys coming on special teams (two power-plays, one shorthanded).

Brent Howarth (power-play), Justin Quenville (power-play), Adam Hogg (shorthanded), and Adam Smyth (empty net) each talled for the Rayz, with player/assistant coach Geno Parrish handing out three assists.

It was the Rayz second straight win at the LEC this season, after winning all but one game on the Bucks home ice last season.

Bucks All-star goaltender Dustin Traylen (15-6-1) is scheduled to make his return in net tonight after spending two-and-a-half weeks on injured reserve.

Despite being on IR, Traylen did start in the all-star game where he stopped 13 of 14 shots that came his way.

In the Traylen's absence the Bucks have gone 2-4.

The Bucks will have tho new faces on the roster tonight, rookie center Derek Legault is expected to be in the line-up, as is defenseman Gabe Yeung. Gord Burnett will meet up with the team Saturday in Bossier-Shreveport and make his Bucks debut then.

Jeff Bes leads the Bucks in scoring with 61 points (24-37=40), but has slipped to fourth in the CHL scoring race. Bes was the first player in the league to reach 60 points this season.

The Bucks have lost four straight games (all in regulation) coming into tonight's game. The Bucks have only lost five games in a row once in their six year history, when they actually lost six in a row from October 29th-November 11th, 2004.

The Rayz come into tonight having lost three of their last four games, including a 6-2 loss to red-hot Austin on Tuesday night.

The Rayz gave up five third period goals to the Ice Bats, including four on the power-play. There was 127 combined penalty minutes in the game, 73 belonging to the Rayz.

After tonight the Bucks will travel to Bossier-Shreveport to take on the Mudbugs Saturday night at 7:05pm.

Laredo will play three home games next week when they host league-leading Rocky Mountain on Wednesday, Mississippi on Friday, and Tulsa on Saturday.

*With a win tonight Bucks head coach/GM Terry Ruskowski will pick up his 450th career coaching win (235 wins with Laredo)

* The Bucks are 10-7-2 so far this season away from the LEC. After starting out 6-0 on the road, the Bucks are just 4-7-2 away from home in their last 13 games, including dropping their last three on the road (Rio Grande Valley, Oklahoma City, Austin).

* The Bucks lead the CHL in shorthanded goals with 11, with four coming on the road

* So Far this season the Bucks are 8-4-1 this season playing on Friday night's, including just 3-4-1 on the road. After tonight the Bucks will play eight more games on Friday's, with four of them taking place away from home.

* So far this season the Bucks are 11-0-2 when leading after the first period, and 18-1-1 when leading after two periods. However, when the Bucks trail after one, they are 3-7, and when they trail after two periods they are 3-11.
