Corpus Christi IceRays News Release
The Corpus Christi Rayz peppered Laredo Bucks netminder Dustin Traylen all night long, but by the time they finally solved the All-Star, the sand had run out of the hourglass. Traylen made 35 saves in his first game in three weeks and held off a sustained Rayz charge and late comeback effort to help Laredo to a 4-2 win Friday night in Corpus Christi. With the loss, the Rayz fell to 15-19-5 and had their lead over the Austin Ice Bats trimmed to just four points for second place in the Southeast Division and fifth in the Southern Conference. Corpus Christi concludes a three-game homestand at the American Bank Center on Saturday Night at 8:05pm vs. the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees. Individual tickets are on sale now. Please call 814-PUCK for more information, or visit the Rayz online at www.ccrayz.com
The Rayz outshot the Bucks 14-9 in a scoreless first period.
In the second period, the Bucks broke the scoreless tie with two power play goals about five minutes apart. At 1:38, Jeff Bes scored his team leading 25th goal on a rebound. Then at 6:40 Chris Korchinski took a rebound off the end wall and turned and fired a shot from the left circle past Jason Tapp. The Bucks outshot the Rayz 10-9 in the frame and took a 2-0 lead into the final period.
The Bucks added to their lead in the third period when James Hiebert scored Laredo's third power play goal from the bottom of the slot at 15:06. After Chris Shaffer and Niko Tuomi both brought to crowd to life winning a couple of fights, Corpus Christi got on the board and closed in on the Bucks. Jay Latulippe scored on a rebound at 14:54 to get the Rayz on the board. Nick Lindberg then beat Dustin Traylen on a breakaway at 15:06 to get Corpus Christi within a goal. However, the comeback fell short and Bes capped the scoring with an empty net goal at 19:40.
Jason Tapp made 22 saves on 25 shots and fell to 15-15-4. Traylen was solid in his first game in three weeks making 35 saves on 37 shots, improving to 16-6-1. The Rayz went 0-5 on the power play, and the Bucks were 3-6. The Rayz outshot the Bucks 36-26.
The Rayz are proud to be celebrating a decade of hockey in South Texas. Individual game tickets are currently available.
