Fort Worth Brahmas News Release
NORTH RICHLAND HILLS, Texas (February 10)- In a matinee game Sunday, the Texas Brahmas had an afternoon delight as they defeated Northeast rival, the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs 3-1.
The Brahmas after coming off of a victory against the 'Bugs last night were still in true form behind former Mudbug Scott Sheppard. Sheppard started the scoring in the first period with a goal from Blair Manning and Kevin Korol.
Both teams delivered hard hits and finished their checks in the game. This was especially shown in the opening period when Brahmas forward Brent MacSween shattered the glass at the NYTEX Sports Centre.
The first period scoring was not done for the Brahmas veteran leader Blair Manning as he went on to set up another goal, this time a powerplay goal, his 23rd of the season.
Texas goaltender Brett Jaeger was unable to keep a shutout going into the second when Mudbugs forward Kevin Cooper took advantage of a Bossier powerplay and put the puck in the back of net at the 8:03 mark.
Before the second could end Texas' feisty forward Kevin Korol notched his second goal of the season with a feed from Sheppard and Kevin McLeod. The Brahmas held on to win 3-1.
Despite only shooting 21 shots, the Brahmas were able to hold the Mudbugs to only 17 shots. Texas is now 24-18-1 with 49 points.
The Brahmas hit the road for a game in Tulsa Tuesday, February 12 but return home for the weekend to face the New Mexico Scorpions Friday and the Mississippi RiverKings Saturday for 7:05 PM faceoffs. Saturday is also Youth Jersey Night. The first 1000 kids 12 and under will receive a Brahmas youth jersey courtesy of Ashley Furniture and Homestore.
