Hounds Acquire Simoes

YOUNGSTOWN, OHIO - Youngstown SteelHounds Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Kevin Kaminski announced today the team has acquired defenseman David Simoes (pronounced suh-MOES) from the New Mexico Scorpions. This transaction completes the trade that sent forward Erik Johnson to New Mexico on November 28th. As per team policy terms of the deal will not be disclosed.

Simoes, 22, is a rookie from Vanderhoof, British Columbia. In 45 games with the Scorpions he accumulated one goal, five assists and 146 penalty minutes. He has amassed a +8 +/- rating. Prior to turning professional he played four years in the British Columbia Hockey League.

"David is going to fit it in very well here," said Kaminski. "He brings toughness and grit to our defense. A solid stay at home defenseman."

The Hounds are home this week when they take on the Oklahoma City Blazers for a three game series starting on Friday at 7:05. Friday is Fan Appreciation Friday as all fans 21 years and older are able to purchase beers for $1.00. This weekend also marks Cancer Awareness Weekend with the Hounds wearing special pink jerseys.
