Bees send Hedbergto RiverKings for Weitzel

Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees News Release


Hidalgo, Texas - The Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees of the Central Hockey League today announced that the team has acquired the rights center Jason Weitzel from the Mississippi RiverKings in exchange for defenseman Jon Hedberg.

Weitzel, 27, had a goal and two assists in 13 games with the RiverKings this season. The 5-foot-10, 182-pound native of Balgonie, Sask., also appeared in 19 games with the Oklahoma City Blazers and had 13 points (3-10-13) before being acquired by the RiverKings. A rookie out of the University of Regina, he began the season with Fuessen EV in the German Oberliga.

Hedberg, 25, appeared 37 games with the Killer Bees this season, posting 10 points (3-7-10) and a minus-12 rating.

The Killer Bees return to action on Tuesday night at the Dodge Arena vs. the Laredo Bucks at 7:30 p.m. All tickets for the game are available on a 2-for-1 basis.
