Youngstown SteelHounds News Release

YOUNGSTOWN, OHIO - The Youngstown SteelHounds in conjunction with the Albany River Rats of the American Hockey League announced today that defenseman Milan Maslonka has been called up to the AHL franchise.

Maslonka, 21, is a second year pro originally from Zvolen, Slovakia. The 6-6, 245-pound defenseman was acquired by Youngstown last season after starting his professional career with the Elmira Jackals of the United Hockey League. In 39 games with Youngstown this season he accumulated three goals, four assists and 210 penalty minutes. In 67 total games with the SteelHounds he has amassed 14 points and 343 penalty minutes.

"Well deserved," said Hounds Head Coach Kevin Kaminski. "Milan has played well for us and with his size and strength I knew that the higher level teams were going to want him and I am very happy for Milan."

The Albany River Rats are the top affiliate of the Carolina Hurricanes of the National Hockey League.

Maslonka becomes the fifth SteelHound to earn a call-up to the AHL this season. Forward Kirill Starkov is currently with the Syracuse Crunch while defenseman Stephen Margeson has been with the Lake Erie Monsters since October. Petr Pohl played two games with the Syracuse Crunch earlier this season and goaltender Andy Franck recorded a 7-1-1 record with the Providence Bruins.

The Hounds welcome the Oklahoma City Blazers to the Chevrolet Centre for a three game series starting Friday night at 7:05. Friday night is "Fan Appreciation Night" with $1.00 beers available for fans 21 years and older. For tickets stop by the Chevrolet Centre box office or call (330) 747-PUCK for more information. All SteelHounds games are available on ESPN Radio 1240 and SteelHounds.com.
