
Boyes leads Bruins to victory

The Providence Bruins and Albany River Rats wrapped up their four-game season series on Sunday afternoon in front of 10,144 fans at the Dunkin' Donuts Center, with the Bruins winning the penalty-filled game, 3-2. The Bruins, who outshot Albany, 39-14, were 2-2-0-0 against the River Rats this season. The Bruins remain in fifth place in the Atlantic Division with their 31-25-3-7 record (72 points), four points behind the Worcester IceCats.
Bruin center Brad Boyes tallied his team-leading ninth game-winning goal of the season on his 29th tally of the year. Centers Patrice Bergeron (18) and Keith Aucoin (19) also scored for Providence.
Boyes has points (13-10-23) in 17 of his last 21 games, and ranks second on the team and fifth in the AHL with 29-37-66 totals in 66 games. He ranks second in the league with nine game-winners.
Aucoin, who also had an assist, has points (10-20-30) in 19 of his last 22 games. He ranks third on the club and 14th in the AHL with 19-40-59 totals in 59 games.
Left wing Andy Hilbert had two assists in the game, to become the franchise career leader with 105. He surpassed former Bruins Andre Savage and Brandon Smith to set the mark. Hilbert is the franchise career leader in goals (96), assists (105), points (201) and power play goals (36).
Goaltender Chris Madden stopped all eight shots he faced in 38:54 for the win. Madden and Albany goaltender Ari Ahonen were assessed game misconducts for being involved in a melee at 18:54 of the second period. Matt Underhill played the final 21:06, stopping four of the six shots he faced.
The Bruins return to action on Friday, March 18 at 7:05 p.m., when they host the Lowell Lock Monsters. They also host the Manchester Monarchs on Sunday, March 20 at 4:05 p.m.
