Penguins recall forward Ed McGrane from Wheeling

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. – The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins today recalled forward Ed McGrane from their ECHL affiliate, the Wheeling Nailers.

McGrane, 26, leads the Nailers in scoring this season with 53 points (22+31) in 59 games. He also leads the team in goals, shots (225) and power play goals (9).

The 5'11", 185-pound native of Hamilton, Ontario split last season between Corpus Christi (CHL), Houston (AHL) and Louisiana (ECHL). He appeared in 19 games with the Rayz, recording 21 points (14+7) and 10 penalty minutes and collected one assist and eight penalty minutes in five games with the Aeros. McGrane spent the majority of the 2003-04 campaign in the ECHL with the IceGators, recording 43 points (18+25) and 12 penalty minutes in 45 games. He ranked seventh on the team in scoring.

Prior to last season, McGrane played four seasons at the University of Massachusetts-Lowell (Hockey East) from 1999-2003. In 144 career games with the River Hawks, McGrane recorded 138 points (70+68) and 54 penalty minutes.

He was signed by the Penguins to an American Hockey League contract on September 25, 2004.

McGrane is expected to be in the lineup today when the Penguins (32-18-6-6, 76 points; 4TH -Place, East Division) host the Binghamton Senators (35-20-5-4, 79 points; 1ST-Place, East Division) at 5:05 p.m. at the Wachovia Arena at Casey Plaza.
