Bridgeport Islanders News Release
BRIDGEPORT, CT - The American Hockey League's Bridgeport Sound Tigers, top affiliate of the National Hockey League's New York Islanders, beat the Springfield Falcons 2-1 at home on Sunday in front of 5,561 fans at Bridgeport's Arena at Harbor Yard.
Springfield opened the scoring 9:05 into the first period when Mitch Fritz scored his third goal of the season off assists from Nick Tarnasky and Darren Reid to put the Falcons ahead 1-0.
The Sound Tigers bounced back 2:50 later when Steve Regier deflected a Chris Campoli shot past Springfield netminder Jean-Marc Pelletier for his sixth goal of the season. Barrett Heisten also assisted on the play to tie the game at 1-1.
The scored remained tied through the middle frame in which Sound Tigers goaltender Wade Dubielewicz saved all 16 shots he faced. Dubielewicz also came up with a pair of huge third-period stops robbing Jason Jaspers from just above the crease early in the frame and stoning the Falcons' leading scorer Ryan Craig later on a power play.
Cole Jarrett gave the Sound Tigers their first lead of the game at 2-1 when he poked the puck home for his sixth goal of the season, and second in as many games, off assists from Matt Koalska and Regier with 5:18 left to play.
Springfield pulled Pelletier with 56 seconds left to play in favor of an extra attacker but were unable to score.
Dubielewicz earned the first star of the game with 33 saves, Reiger was the second star with a goal and an assist and Pelletier was the third with 25 saves. The Falcons outshot the Sound Tigers 34-27. The Sound Tigers were 0 for 3 on the power play while Springfield was 0 for 4.
The Sound Tigers will begin a stretch of four straight road games when they visit the Binghamton Senators this Wednesday at 7:05 p.m. They will play a fifth consecutive game away from Bridgeport when they host the Norfolk Admirals at the Nassau Coliseum on Long Island on Wednesday, March 23rd. All five games are scheduled to be broadcast live on 600 WICC-AM and at www.soundtigers.com.
