Bowling Green Hands Clinton Its Eighth Straight Loss

Clinton LumberKings News Release

Clinton, IA - A career high 10 strikeouts for Clinton starter Zack Littell (L, 1-1) was not enough to stop the slide, as the LumberKings (23-33) fell for the eighth straight game. Bowling Green (31-25) scored the first four runs of the game and the Hot Rods' staff allowed just a pair of runs in a 4-2 win.

Littell, in just his fifth start of the season, struck out the side in the first, and tallied seven more after that over six full innings. With the bases loaded and no outs in the second inning, Grant Kay grounded into a double play that plated the first run of the game. Bowling Green improved to 22-2 when scoring the first run of the game.

An inning later, bloop singles by Cristian Toribio and Riley Unroe made it 2-0 Bowling Green, while a two-run home run by Jace Conrad snuck inside the right field foul pole and put the Hot Rods ahead 4-0.

Staked to an early 4-0 lead, Greg Harris (W, 3-4) pitched through trouble in the early innings and improved as the game moved on. The righty went 5.1 innings and allowed only five hits, one run, and struck out seven batters, one shy of his season high. Harris allowed a leadoff double to Estarlyn Morales in the sixth inning and left one batter later after his strikeout of Joe DeCarlo. Taylor Zeutenhorst plated Morales with an RBI single, then scored on an RBI base hit by Luis Caballero. Both RBI hits came off of left-handed reliever Kyle Bird.

The Clinton bullpen, which struggled in the series vs. Dayton, pitched three scoreless innings Saturday night, as Osmer Morales, Nick Kiel, and Rohn Pierce kept Clinton in the game. But Mike Franco (SV, 2) walked one and gave up one hit in a scoreless eighth inning, then set down the side in order in the ninth.

In the loss, Chris Mariscal (3-4) extended his hitting streak to six games. Six Clinton starters recorded at least one hit, while eight of the nine Bowling Green starters had at least one. Clinton went 3-15 with RISP and left 11 men on base in the loss.

In game two of the series, Jeffeson Medina (2-5, 4.15) will look to bounce back from his two-inning outing in his last start for Clinton, while Hyrum Formo (3-1, 4.50) comes in off of a start in which he allowed only one run over six innings vs. Great Lakes. First pitch in Clinton is set for 2:00 CT. The LumberKings broadcast can be heard on WCCI 100.3 FM, WCCIRadio.com, and LumberKings.com.
