Bowling Green Hot Rods News Release

Clinton, Iowa - A three-run third inning helped Bowling Green (31-25) get back to its winning ways, outlasting the Clinton LumberKings (23-33) in a 4-2 final at Ashford University Field on Saturday evening.

Bowling Green has a 3-1 record on the six-game road trip and has won four of its last five games, while Clinton has dropped eight straight for the first time since May 2012.

Hot Rods starter Greg Harris was handed an early lead, when Bowling Green opened the top of the second inning with three consecutive singles from Justin Williams, Bralin Jackson and Nick Ciuffo to load the bases against Clinton starter Zack Littell. Williams crossed the plate to give the Hot Rods a 1-0 lead on Grant Kay's ground ball double play.

Three more runs crossed home in that third inning, as Cristian Toribio opened the frame with a single into centerfield, and after a Littell balk, Riley Unroe drove Toribio home with a single and took third on a two-base fielding error, giving the Hot Rods a 2-0 advantage. On the next pitch, Jace Conrad broke an 0-for-10 streak by hitting his 10th home run of the season over the right-field wall, scoring Unroe, and putting Clinton down by a 4-0 score.

While the Hot Rods cooled off, Clinton broke through for a pair of runs in the sixth inning, when Estarlyn Morales, who led off the inning with a double against Harris and scored on a two-out Taylor Zeutenhorst single off Kyle Bird for a 4-1 game. Zeutenhorst then came home on a Luis Caballero single into centerfield, bringing the LumberKings back within 4-2, but Martin Peguero was caught in an inning-ending rundown between second and third to halt the threat.

Harris (3-4) was charged with only one run over 5.1 innings of work, allowing just five hits, while meandering around three walks with seven strikeouts. Mike Franco logged the final 2.0 scoreless innings fanning four including a dramatic strikeout of Caballero with the tying runs on base and two outs in the eighth. The former Florida International standout recorded his second save of the season, first since April 11 at South Bend.

In all, Bowling Green pitching fanned 14 LumberKings, the second-highest total of 2015.

Littell (1-1) lost his first decision, allowing eight hits and four runs through 6.0 innings of work, despite striking out 10 Hot Rods, tying their most punchouts against a single hurler. The Hot Rods struck out 12 times altogether without taking a walk.

Jackson extended his hitting streak to 14 games with that single in the second, going 2-for-4 overall with a double, his ninth multi-hit game in the streak. Casey Gillaspie and Kay also collected two-baggers for Bowling Green.

Hyrum Formo (3-1, 4.50) gets the rock for the Hot Rods in a 2 p.m. Sunday matinee, as Bowling Green looks to win its second road series in a row and clinch a winning road trip against Clinton's Jeffeson Medina (2-5, 4.15).
