New York Boulders News Release

RAMAPO, New York - After a 31 minute rain delay, the Rockland Boulders hosted the New Jersey Jackals for the first time at Provident Bank Park Friday evening. A thick fog covered the field in the eighth inning, causing a delay that eventually led to the game being called, giving the Jackals a 7-3 win after 7.2 innings of Can-Am League action.

An error in the second by the Boulders' Jermel Lomack was the game changer. A possible double play to end the inning turned into a run and led to more.

"After the error, we got in our own heads," said manager Dave LaPoint. "Roger did what he does and kept us in the game."

Nick Giarraputa led the way for the Jackals, going 3-for-4 with a solo home run in the fourth and scored three runs of his own. New Jersey starter Ryan Kulik went five innings, giving up three runs, but it would be enough to earn him his first win of the season.

The Boulders jumped out to a quick start on Friday night off Kulik. After back-to-back infield hits put Lomack and Bridger Hunt on the corners to begin the first, Vic Buttler hit a deep 3-run shot over the short porch in right field. The home run ended a nine-game homerless drought for the Boulders. The Boulders threatened again in the first. Todd Jennings and John Fitzpatrick were both in scoring positions before Ryan Mollica struck out to end the inning, but four hits in the first gave the Boulders an early 3-0 lead. Kulik settled in after a shaky first and went on to throw four scoreless innings.

New Jersey (12-9) quickly put runners on second and third in the top of the second. The Jackals' Kris Sanchez reached on an infield single that plated the first run for New Jersey.

Rockland starter Roger Lincoln's troubles continued in the second when Chris Anderson followed with a ground ball to short that went through Lomack's legs, bringing another run around to cut the Boulders' lead to one. Former New York Met Argenis Reyes hit a double down the third base line with two outs to score the third Jackals run of the inning, tying the ball game.

The Boulders had a chance to tie the game in the bottom of the fourth after Lomack reached second on a throwing error by Kulik. Norm Hutchins, who came into the game to replace Hunt, who injured himself sliding into first for an infield single, grounded out to move Lomack over to third. He was stranded out there after Buttler grounded out to first for the final out.

The Jackals added a fifth run in the top of the sixth on Chris Anderson's solo shot to left, his first of the season.

The fog engulfed the entire stadium in the eighth inning. After a few balls were lost in the fog, helping the Jackals add two more runs, the game was delayed to keep the players and fans safe after determining the fog was too heavy to see in. After 47 minutes, the game was called.

Game two of this Can-Am League series between the Rockland Boulders (6-12) and New Jersey Jackals will take place Saturday evening at Provident Bank Park. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 pm on Flip Over Commemorative Coin Night presented by Clarkstown Coin and Jewelry. The first 1,500 fans in attendance will be presented a special edition coin, celebrating the Boulders' inaugural season.

Taking the hill for the Rockland Boulders will be Jonathan Velasquez (1-2), while New Jersey sends Chris Vasami (1-2) to the bump.
