Worcester Ties it in the Eighth, Quebec Wins it in the Ninth 2-1

The Quebec Capitales scored the winning run in the top half of the ninth inning and set the Tornadoes down 1-2-3 in the bottom half on Saturday night,taking a 2-1 contest at Hanover Insurance Park at Fitton Field. Goefrey Tomlinson hit an RBI double after Jeff Helps was hit by a pitch, giving Quebec its second one-run lead.
Matt Smith pitched his best game of the season, allowing just one run in 5.1 innings. He gave up four hits and walked four batters, striking out one. The loss went to Rick Asadoorian (0-1), who gave up his second run of the season on one hit (and had a strikeout) in the ninth.
Dexter Bobo retired all five batters he faced and picked up the victory, despite allowing the (inherited) tying run to score in the bottom of the eighth. Anthony Sosnoskie hit a leadoff triple in the frame, and two batters later, the Capitales' starter John Mariotti was chased from the game. Mariotti went 7.1 innings in his no decision, allowing seven hits and a run, while walking one and striking out three. Alex Nunez plated the Tornadoes catcher with a sacrifice fly, but that was all that Worcester could muster.
Sean Gregory extended his scoreless streak to eight innings with a 0.2 inning effort in the ballgame, walking one batter. Ryan Walfield pitched two scoreless innings for the Tornadoes, k'ing one and allowing a base knock.
Manager Ed Riley was ejected before the game started by the third base umpire Robert Dickinson. Dickinson ejected Mark Minicozzi Friday night for arguing balls and strikes. Minicozzi was suspended one game for the offense and served it this game.
The third and final game of the series will be on Sunday afternoon as Worcester sends lefty Shawn Gilblair to the mound. He will be opposed by righty Karl Gelinas as Quebec goes for the sweep.
