Pittsfield Colonials News Release
PITTSFIELD, MA - The Pittsfield Colonials got two complete game efforts from their starting pitching as for the second straight night, the Colonials swept a doubleheader from the New York Federals winning 6-2 and 7-0.
Pittsfield would get all the runs they needed in game one in the first inning as they plated three, two on Billy Mottram's fourth homer of the season. The Colonials would add three more in the second inning on three hits to take a 6-0 lead.
At that point Pat Moran put things on cruise control. The Pittsfield righthander tossed the first complete game of his career, scattering six hits and two runs. Moran (3-1) did not walk a batter and struck out four. The only blip on his radar was an Eddie Lantigua sixth inning homer. Ben Hildreth (0-1) took the loss for New York.
In game two Pittsfield once again jumped ahead early with a pair of runs in the first inning. With Jerod Edmondson on third base, Danny Bomback doubled to score Edmonson to take a 1-0 edge. Bomback would promptly steal third and come in to score on a throwing error by Sandy DeLeon to make it 2-0 Colonials.
After Pittsfield scored a run in the third, the Colonials would put the game to bed in the fourth with four runs, keyed by a two-run triple by Johnny Welch.
MacKenzie King (1-0) made his professional debut a memorable one, tossing a complete game shutout. The righthander allowed seven hits, walked one and struck out four. Sean Guinard (0-2) suffered the loss for New York.
Pittsfield will wrap up its series against the Federals with an afternoon tilt on Sunday. David Qualben (1-1, 3.95) will get the start for the Colonials against Luis Pardo (0-0, 2.00) for New York. To celebrate Father's Day, the Colonials are admitting families of up to five for just $15. Gates will open at 1 p.m. and from 1-1:30, fans can come on the field and have a catch with their dad.
