Brockton Rox News Release

(Newark, N.J. - June 18, 2011) - The Brockton Rox (14-8) made it two straight wins over the Newark Bears (13-9) at Riverfront Stadium Saturday night as Keith Brachold led Brockton's offense with four RBIs and three runs scored on the way to an 11-6 game two victory.

Mark Rosen (1-0) did just enough to earn his first win since 2007, lasting a season high-tying five and 1/3 innings, while allowing six runs on eight hits and both walking and striking out three.

Brockton chased Bears starter Jacob Wild (2-2) after five innings, plating seven runs (six earned) on eight hits against the righthander. Wild gave up five runs in the fifth, including the three run shot to Brachold that made the score 7-2.

Kyle Morrison entered in the sixth to a rude welcome by Chris Grossman. The Rox catcher deposited the first offering from Morrison over the left field fence before Brockton added three more runs to put the game safely away in the following frame.

Grossman finished the game 3-for-4 with 3 RBIs and two runs scored.

Danny Santiesteban led the way for the Newark bats, going 2-for-4 with a home run, a triple and three RBIs, but the Bears would fall short, despite scoring four in the sixth inning to cut the lead down to four.

Brockton received quality work from the bullpen as Brad Hertzler and Jake Hale combined to quiet the Bears offense, allowing no runs on two hits through the final three frames.

The Rox red hot offense has now scored 28 runs on 32 hits in the first two games of the series and has catapulted the team to second place in the Can-Am League standings, one game ahead of the Bears.

The Rox and Bears will play the series finale of the three game set on Sunday afternoon with first pitch set for 1:05 p.m. Freddy Flores takes the mound in search of his third win as Brockton goes for the first road sweep of the season.
