Jackals Take Early Series Lead

LITTLE FALLS, NJ - The New Jersey Jackals got three first inning runs while Isaac Pavlik and three relievers made it hold up as the Jackals took game one of the first round playoff series against the Pittsfield Colonials by a 5-1 final.

After the Colonials were turned away in the top of the first, Chad Paronto got the first two outs of the bottom of the inning before Myron Leslie homered to make it 1-0 NJ. Following the homerun, a double by Sandy Madera and a walk by D'Angelo Jimenez put runners on first and second as Kris Sanchez came to the plate a stroked a double into right-centerfield to score both runners for a 3-0 Jackals lead.

New Jersey would add an unearned run in the second when Chris White came in to score on a throwing error by Matt Nandin on an infield single by Bryan Sabatella. Pittsfield tallied their lone run in the top of the third when a Jerod Edmondson single was followed by a Danny Bomback double to cut the NJ lead to 4-1.

The Jackals added an insurance run in the seventh to cement the final score on an RBI double from Leslie to score Sean Smith.

Isaac Pavlik (1-0) earned the win with 6.2 innings of work. The lefty allowed one run on five hits, striking out four. Chad Paronto (0-1) took the loss despite striking out a career-high tying nine batters.

Game two of the series comes up on Friday night where the Colonials will send Can-Am League Rookie of the Year Pat Moran (11-3, 3.56) against August League Pitcher of the Month A. J. Wideman (7-2, 2.52) for the Jackals. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. with the pregame show on WTBR beginning at 6:45.
