Boron Makes Early Offense Stand Up

WICHITA, KS- The Wichita Thunder defeated the Mississippi Riverkings by a final score of 2-1 on Friday night at the Kansas Coliseum.

Tim Boron stopped a team and personal season-high 51 shots on goal, helping the Thunder snap a six-game losing streak.

Troy Ofukany and Chris Greene provided first period goals. Ofukany scored on a two-on-one at 13:03 in the first period, getting assists from Joel Hanson and Pascal Bedard. Greene connected on the power play, roofing one to the long side of the net at 17:01. Hanson and Bryan Nathe earned assists on the goal.

Wichita led 2-0 into the third period when Riverkings' forward Matt Pierce scored at 3:34 to cut the Thunder lead to 2-1. The Thunder kept Mississippi off the scoreboard for the remainder of the game to hold on for the win.

The Thunder went a perfect 8 for 8 on the penalty kill. The 21 shots allowed by the Thunder in the third period were the most allowed in one period this season. Wichita's 17 shots in the second period tied a season high. Boron has allowed three or fewer goals in eight of nine starts this season.
