New Mexico Scorpions News Release

[RIO RANCHO, N.M.]-In a hard fought, physical battle, Colorado edged the Scorpions 4-3 on Friday night. The teams combined to score power play goals in the contest.

Colorado opened the night's scoring when Greg Pankewicz ripped a power play goal to the back of the net. The next shift the Scorpions would go to the power play and get the equalizer.

Seth Leonard found Jamie Herrington with a perfect cross ice pass to start the sequence. Herington found Craig Macdonald who was knocking at the back door. In one motion, Macdonald threw puck into the net tying the game at one.

New Mexico used their second power play goal of the night to grab a lead. Mitch Stephens found a loose rebound on his stick and scored for the 10th time this season.

Just past the game's halfway mark, Konrad Reeder stymied his former team with a power play goal. Ed McGrane gave the Eagles the lead back with his eighth goal of the season at the 11:53 mark. Colorado extended their lead to 4-2 as Adam Hogg found himself alone in front of the Scorps net.

The Scorps fought back in the third period getting the game within one goal. Andrew Smale scored his first goal of the season with a wicked slap shot from the top of the circle.

The same two teams battle again staring at 7:15 p.m. Saturday inside the Santa Ana Star Center. Following Saturday's game the Scorpions players will be at the Chili's in Rio Rancho for a meet and greet.
