Shots from the Point for Friday

December 19, 2008 - Central Hockey League (CHL) News Release

1) All-Star Co-Coach Looms in the Balance

2) Oilers Look for Revenge

3) Staying Put

1- One-half of the coaching staff for the CHL All-Star Team has been set with Doug Sauter clinching the Northern Conference slot with Wednesday's victory in Colorado but the Southern Conference co-coach is far from determined with Odessa's Paul Gillis and Laredo's Terry Ruskowski battling for the honor. Gillis appears to have the edge with Odessa winning 11 straight games and sitting with the highest win percentage in the South at .760. Ruskowski's team leads the Southeast Division and has a .717 win percentage (the coach is determined by the highest win percentage after the games of December 23rd). The Jacks need to win one more game coupled with a Bucks regulation loss and Gillis can book his ticket. 2- The Tulsa Oilers have a home-and-home series this weekend with the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs and revenge will be on the mind of the Oilers who have dropped both meetings this season with the ‘Bugs including a 9-3 throttling on Halloween. Tulsa is 3-2 in their last five games with both losses coming at the hands of the red-hot Odessa Jackalopes (11 straight wins). The Oilers offense has been set-up recently by Jeff Christian who has seven helpers in his last three games. The Mudbugs have won four of their last five home games (all by one goal) and are coming off a 2-2 road trip that leaves them tied with Mississippi for second place in the Northeast Division.

3- This weekend's games feature three back-to-back series' between CHL teams including Texas at Arizona, Colorado at New Mexico and Oklahoma City at Rocky Mountain. The Brahmas are in Prescott Valley for three games already dropping game one of the series 3-2 on Wednesday night. The trip to Tim's Toyota Center marks the first ever meetings between the two teams. For Colorado, they are an amazing 27-3-4 all-time versus the Scorpions and 1-0 this season. Lastly, Oklahoma City looks to build on their 7-2-0 road record and their thrilling 3-2 shootout win on Wednesday night in Colorado.
