SCHAUMBURG, Ill. - The two-time defending Frontier League Champion Schaumburg Boomers, presented by Wintrust Community Banks, were swept at home for just the second time in team history after dropping a 4-1 decision to the Normal CornBelters on Thursday night.

Normal scored all four runs in the second inning with three coming on a triple from Mark Micowski. Schaumburg starter Edwin Carl settled in, working through six innings and striking out six. The Boomers could not break through against the combination of Normal starter Mike Schweiss and reliever Race Parmenter, striking out 13 times. The Boomers sent the tying run to the plate in the seventh, but only one run could cross as Alexi Colon lined out deep to center to score Craig Massey.

Mike Schulze posted three hits at the top of the lineup for the Boomers. Jordan Dean finished with two hits. Massey logged a single and owns a nine-game hitting streak. Massey has reached base in every game this year. Zach Wendorf twirled three scoreless innings out of the bullpen in place of Carl, striking out three. Schaumburg stranded nine in the game.
