
Rascals Win-Streak Ends at Four

O'Fallon, MO - The Rascals (5-6) had their four-game winning streak snapped after a 10-6 victory by Washington Wild Things (3-8) on Wednesday, May 27 at T.R. Hughes Ballpark. Washington opened the scoring with four runs in the second inning. Sam Mende led off with a single, and Lee Orr reached base on a field error by 3B Taylor Ard. Edinson Rincon drove in Mende with a single, then David Popkins cleared the bases with a three-run homerun. In the fourth inning, Popkins hit a lead off single, stole second base, and scored on a single by Jeudy Valdez, giving Washington a 5-0 lead.
The Wild Things scored four more runs in the fifth inning. Matt Ford and C.J. Beatty each singled to begin the inning. Both runners scored on a double by Mende. Then Orr drove home Mende with a single. After Orr stolen second base, John Fidanza reached first on a throwing error by SS Johnny Morales, which allowed Orr to score.
The Rascals responded with five runs in the bottom of the inning. Ard hit a lead off double and scored on a RF Saxon Butler single. After a fielder's choice and a single by CF Curran Redal, Morales hit an RBI single. C Josh Ludy then hit a three-run homer, his first homerun of the season.
Each team scored a run in the sixth inning. Beatty hit a two-out single and stole second base; Mende drove in Beatty on a single. Mende went 4-for-5 with three RBI. Butler responded with his first homer, a solo shot, in the bottom of the inning.
RHP Joe Scanio (L, 2-1) surrendered five runs, four earned, and seven walks. He did not allow a walk in 4.0 innings pitched. RHP Jake Heissler gave up three runs on three hits but did not record an out. RHP Tommy Danczyk ceded two runs, one earned, and three hits over 2.0 innings of work. LHP Tommy Organ pitched 1.0 perfect inning of relief in his 2015 Rascals debut. RHP Will Schierholz struck out two hitters in 0.2 inning. RHP Derek Cape pitched a perfect 1.1 inning with three strikeouts to finish the game.
Washington starter Luke Wilkins (W, 1-1) earned the win despite allowing five runs and 10 hits over 5.0 innings of work. Tyler Wilson allowed one run in 1.0 inning. Steve Messner and Richie Mirowski combined for 3.0 scoreless innings.
The Rascals and Washington Wild Things will play the rubber match on Thursday, May 28 at 6:35 p.m. CST at T.R. Hughes Ballpark. RHP Marc Rutledge (1-1, 4.00) will make his second start of the season. Washington will start LHP Kyle Helisek (1-1, 1.69).
