Battle Creek Battle Jacks News Release
The Battle Creek Bombers take the second of two and halt a five game losing streak in the first I-94 rivalry series of the year against the crosstown rival Kalamazoo Growlers.
The Kalamazoo Growlers struck first in the top of the first after weaving three hits around a walk scoring Shea Kramer and Miko Rodriguez.
The Bombers answered in the bottom half of the frame with three of their own when Dion Henderson walked five of eight batters to start.
Battle Creek would add to that total in the fourth off of a Roy Thurman sacrifice fly driving in Erik Owen who reached earlier in the inning on an error.
It was the strong pitching of Walter Talcott and Pablo Arevalo that held the Growlers to just two runs until the top of the 8th.
It was in that inning that Fox Leum would send one out for a solo home run to bring Kalamazoo back within one. Leading 4-3 with two outs in the top of the 8th Burrell Jones took the mound in relief of Ping-Chun Ho. He would strike out Miko Rodriguez with four pitches.
In the top of the 9th Jones came back out to close things out for Battle Creek. He finished his night with 1.1 innings pitched allowing just one hit and earning two strikeouts along with his first save of the season.
Bombers are back in action tomorrow night at home where they will play host to the Kokomo Jackrabbits.
