WINNIPEG, MB - The Winnipeg Blue Bombers upgraded their Canadian content and solidified their offensive line today with the acquisition of Alexandre Gauthier in a trade with the Calgary Stampeders.

The Blue Bombers receive Gauthier and a third round pick in the 2007 CFL College Draft in exchange for import offensive lineman Garrick Jones and two picks in this year's CFL College Draft (first and fifth rounds).

"We are ecstatic to be able to acquire a player with Alexandre Gauthier's experience and ability," Bombers G.M. Brendan Taman said.

"By adding a non-import talent like him to our offensive line mix, it will provide us with a number of options when training camp begins."

In 2006, Gauthier (6-7, 307, Laval '02, DOB: Dec. 8, 1976 in Maria, Quebec) started all 18 regular season games for Calgary as well as the West Semi-Final versus the Saskatchewan Roughriders. He and the rest of the Stamps' offensive line paved the way for running back Joffrey Reynolds to rush for 1,541 yards, the second best rushing total in the league. Gauthier and Co. also gave up the fewest quarterback sacks in the league (27).

Gauthier joined Calgary as a free agent in 2005 and played in 16 regular season games with the Stamps, including the West Semi-Final.

Gauthier began his CFL career with the Ottawa Renegades in 2002 after being chosen in the first round of that year's CFL Draft by the 'Gades. He played his first CFL game on Sept. 14, 2002 against the Stampeders and saw action in two other games that season.

In 2003, Gauthier appeared in seven games with Ottawa, missing nine games due to injury. Gauthier had one of his most productive seasons in 2004, starting 16 games for Ottawa.

Gauthier played university football at the University of Laval from 1999 until 2002. He was a member of the Rouge et Or team that was the Ontario-Quebec Interuniversity Football Conference finalist in 2000 and was a member of Laval's Quebec Interuniversity Football Conference championship team, which qualified for the Atlantic Bowl in 2001.
