(Calgary) - The Calgary Stampeder Football Club announced the signing of free agent Receiver Ryan Thelwell. Thelwell joins the Stampeders after his sixth season in the CFL all of which have been with the B.C. Lions.

"The addition of an experienced starting Canadian player like Ryan gives our organization a great deal of roster flexibility," said General Manager Jim Barker. "Ryan is a proven receiver with speed and a great addition to our locker room."

Last season he recorded 53 receptions for 625 yards for the Grey Cup Champion B.C. Lions. In his previous season he recorded career highs with 74 receptions for 1,035 yards, seven touchdowns and was recognized as a Western Division All-Star (2004, '05) for the second time in his career.

"I'm very excited to sign with Calgary to be joining a great organization and a chance to play with an outstanding team," said Ryan Thelwell. "I look forward to heading east as Calgary is such a beautiful city with tremendous fans."

In 2005 Thelwell had a career high game vs the Stampeders on July 29th hauling in 10 receptions for 145 yards. He would record three games of 100+ yards receiving and three receptions for 51 yards in the Western Final vs Edmonton in the same season.

He was originally drafted by the B.C. Lions in the 2nd round (9th overall) of the 1998 Canadian College Draft. In his six years with the Lions he accumulated 4,991 receiving yards and 335 receptions ranking him 8th All-time in Lions history.
