Calgary Stampeders News Release
(Calgary) - The Calgary Stampeder Football Club announced today that Chuck McMahon will be rejoining the Red and White as the teams Receiver Coach. Also joining the Stampeders staff is Kris Sweet as the teams Offensive Line Coach.
"Chuck is a great fit for our organization as he brings a tremendous amount of experience to the team," said Senior Vice-President of Football Operations Tom Higgins. "Both myself and Offensive Coordinator George Cortez have had the pleasure to work with him in the past which will make the transition of our new offensive system that much smoother."
Chuck re-joins the Stampeder organization after six years as the Head Coach for the McGill Redmen. During his tenure he posted a 29-28 overall record, including a 24-24 mark in regular season play. He led the team to five post season appearances in six seasons producing 24 league all-stars, 11 All-Canadians and five players who went on to pro careers in the Canadian Football League. At least 31 different players also earned Academic All-Canadian honours (excluding this year as grades will not be available until June).
A resident of Dorval, Que., he was appointed in 2001 as the 18th head coach in McGill history. During his first two seasons with the Redmen, he guided the team to consecutive Dunsmore Cup conference championships. McMann, who also served as the team's offensive coordinator, won the Frank Tindall trophy in 2002 as CIS football coach of the year. It marked the first time that a McGill coach had won the national award since the trophy's inception in 1969.
He joined the Redmen in 2001 after nine seasons as an assistant coach with the Calgary Stampeders, where he had the opportunity to coach in four Grey Cups games, winning championships in 1992 and 1998.
Kris Sweet joins the Stampeders from the University of Columbus. He joined the Lion staff as offensive line coach in 2006 after a year in the same position at Kentucky State.
"Kris is the last piece of our coaching staff," said Vice-President of Football Operations Tom Higgins. "He brings a combination of youth and knowledge to the team. He also has some CFL experience having been a guest coach for the B.C. Lions this past season."
Prior to coaching at Kentucky State, he had spent five years at Presbyterian College. Hired in 2000 as coach of running backs and tight ends, he became the Blue Hose offensive coordinator in 2002. He entered the coaching profession in 1997 as a graduate assistant coach at Tennessee Tech, then spent a year each as centers and guards coach at Holy Cross, and assistant defensive line coach at Elon.
