Florence Y'alls News Release

CRESTWOOD, IL - The road woes continued for the Florence Freedom Tuesday night at Standard Bank Stadium as they managed only one hit and one run, falling to the Windy City Thunderbolts 4-1.

Johnny Welch's RBI single in the top of the seventh inning was all the Freedom could manage against a combination of four Thunderbolt pitchers.

Windy City starter Matt Jernstad went the first six innings without giving up a hit, but was relieved to begin the seventh. Jernstad (4-3) picked up the win striking out seven and walking three.

Brandon Garner walked Billy Mottram and later after he stole second, gave up the only base knock.

Everett Saul started for Florence and allowed a second inning run with two outs. Catcher Dan Jordan drove in Gilberto Zayas to make it 1-0 Windy City.

Bryan Cook hit his thirteenth homer of the season leading off the fourth inning against Saul. The final two runs came in the sixth, again with two outs.

Saul left with the bases loaded and only one out, but after Andy Clark got the first batter he faced to strike out, Florence was one pitch away from getting out of the jam. But on a 1-1 count, Kraig Binick fisted a ball through the middle to plate two and make it 4-0 at that point.

Saul (9-6) dropped his third straight decision going 5 1/3 innings while allowing four runs on eight hits with six strikeouts.

Nick Hall picked up his sixth save of the season as he struck out the only two batters he faced in the ninth. Windy City combined to fan 11 Freedom batters.

Florence (33-39) has now dropped seven straight on the road and will go for redemption Wednesday night from Standard Bank Stadium at 8:05 p.m. Eastern. Listen live as the Freedom are on the road at Classic Country 106.7 FM WNKR or visit www.1067WNKR.com.
