LAKEWOOD, NJ- Gus Milner scored the winning run on a wild pitch in the bottom of the eighth inning and Lakewood defeated Delmarva 6-5 in the first game of their three game series Wednesday night at FirstEnergy Park. Milner, who also homered in the game, scored with two outs and Quintin Berry at the plate, after the BlueClaws nearly squandered 2nd and 3rd with nobody out in that inning. It was a game the BlueClaws trailed 5-0.

Lakewood gets back over .500 at 5-4. Garet Hill (1-1) got the win and Andrew Cruse (3) pitched a 1-2-3 ninth for the save. Chad Thall (0-1) got the loss.

Milner was 2-4 with a double, homer, and two runs scored. Matt Reed had two hits and an RBI for Lakewood as well.

The BlueClaws tied the game when Delmarva first baseman Brandon Snyder allowed an Adrian Cardenas grounder to slip through his legs with the bases loaded. Earlier in the inning, Matt Reed and Quinin Berry had RBI singles in the inning.

Delmarva built the 5-0 lead after 4 ½ innings thanks to four unearned runs off of Jarrod Freeman. Brandon Tripp got an RBI single to score Danny Figueroa. David Cash then reached on a fielder's choice and scored on another, a line drive dropped at third by Carl Henry, who threw to second base but Adrian Cardenas came off the bag and was charged with an error. The inning was extended and Miguel Abreu and Brandon Snyder followed with RBI hits.

The teams continue their series tomorrow night with another 6:35 contest. The first 2,000 fans 17 & under receive batting helmets thanks to Utz Quality Foods. You can hear all the action on the Shore Sports Network (1160 WOBM-AM and 1310 WADB) at 6:20.
