Cowart Named Pitcher of Week

Augusta, GA - Augusta GreenJackets right-hander Adam Cowart has been named the South Atlantic League Pitcher of the Week. Cowart has started three games in 2007 and leads the team with a 3-0 mark and 17.0 innings pitched.
Cowart, a 35th round selection by the San Francisco Giants in 2006, is in his first season with the GreenJackets and off to a hot start. The right-hander has allowed just two runs on 14 hits over his three starts for a 1.06 ERA. Cowart has also walked just one batter and struck out 10.
Cowart was the fist pitcher in the SAL to reach three wins in 2007 and is currently tied for first among all Minor League Pitchers with three wins in the season.
The Texas native started his professional career in 2006 with the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes and finished the season 10-1 with a 1.08 ERA in 15 games, all starts. Cowart allowed 13 runs, 10 earned in 83.1 innings pitched. He also walked eight and struck 55 in his first professional season.
Cowart was named to the Northwest League Post Season All-Star team and led the league in wins and ERA.
The GreenJackets are off to their best start in franchise history with a 12-1 record through the first 13 games. Augusta began the season with 12 straight wins, one short of the Major League Baseball record of 13.
The GreenJackets are currently in the middle of a four game road trip and return home to Augusta and Lake Olmstead Stadium on Saturday, April 21. Augusta will kick off an eight game home stand beginning with four games against the Kannapolis Intimidators, affiliate of the Chicago White Sox. First pitch on Saturday, April 21 is at 7:05 pm. Baseball caps will be handed out to the first 1,000 fans through the gates on Saturday, courtesy of Coke.
