Columbus, GA - The Columbus Catfish (7-7) and Augusta GreenJackets (13-1) fought to a close finish Wednesday at Golden Park, but the visitors tallied an ace in the ninth for the 1-0 win. It was already the fifth shutout for the dominating Augusta pitching staff.

Augusta plated the only run of the game in the top of the ninth inning. The first two batters of the inning struck out. RF Matt Weston then walked. 3B Ryan Rohlinger reached on a fielding error by 3B Cesar Suarez, allowing Weston to move to second. DH Nestor Rojas singled to drive in Weston for the eventual game-winner.

The Catfish hurlers held their own. RHP Josh Butler threw the first six scoreless innings. He gave up just three hits and no walks while striking out four.

RHP Edward Sosa was sharp for the GreenJackets. He gave up just one hit and one walk while striking out six batters in the first five innings. LHP Clayton Tanner (2-0) followed for the next three scoreless innings and got the win. RHP Juan Trinidad locked it down in the ninth for his third save.

RHP Neal Frontz (0-3) pitched well in relief but suffered the loss. He permitted two hits and one walk while striking out three, but also was charged with the unearned run in the ninth.

Game three of the series will begin at 7:00pm Thursday. RHP Heath Rollins will start against RHP Robert Grace. For tickets, merchandise or more information call (706) 571-8866 or visit columbuscatfish.com.
