Savannah, GA - Former Wren High School standout Jason Place tried to carry the rest of his Drive (6-8) teammates on his shoulders Wednesday night, but it wasn't quite enough as the Drive fell short to the Savannah Sand Gnats, 5-4.

Place, who finished 2-for-4, broke a scoreless tie in the top of the second with a two-run homer. It was his first long ball of the season. After Savannah cut the lead in half in the bottom of the second, Place extended the lead back to two runs with a solo shot in the top of the fourth.

However, once again Savannah was able to claw back, tying the game with two runs in the bottom of the fourth. Greenville starter Brian Steinocher (1-2) allowed the first four batters of the inning to reach base, including three consecutive hits, to plate both runs.

The see-saw battle continued as the Drive added another run in the top of the fifth, only to have Savannah score twice in the bottom half of the inning, the eventual game-winning runs.

The Greenville offense would lack any punch the remaining four innings as reliever Matt Durkin only issued two walks, while striking out seven, en route to earning his first save of the season.

Greenville and Savannah continue their four-game series Wednesday night at historic Grayson Stadium with first pitch set for 7:05 PM. Right-hander Jordan Craft will take the hill for the Drive, as the Sand Gnats counter with fellow righty Todd Privett.

The Drive return home to West End Field on Saturday, April 21st when the host the Asheville Tourists for four games. Tickets for all Drive home games can be purchased by visiting www.GreenvilleDrive.com or by calling (864) 240-4500.

NOTES: The Drive finished the game 5-for-30...Argenis Diaz, Lars Anderson, and Jon Still chipped in with one hit apiece...Brian Steinocher threw a season-high 7.0 innings
